ReStoreNEH Gains Momentum

MOUNT DESERT — More than 50 people came out for the first summer meeting of ReStoreNEH July 22. The advocacy group, sponsored by the Mount Desert Chamber of Commerce, was designed to revitalize the village of Northeast Harbor’s downtown area following two devastating fires that leveled four Main Street businesses over the last year.

The desire to revitalize Northeast Harbor has brought people together in a way that he’s never seen before, said Mr. Shaw Tuesday. “Everybody has recognized that we have a great opportunity here and that there is work to be done.”

The meeting drew shopkeepers, summer residents, the town manager, selectmen, members of the Northeast Harbor Village Improvement Society, summer workers and others interested in the future of Northeast Harbor. The support from town officials has been outstanding, said jeweler Sam Shaw. “The town is involved and is participating in a very healthy way.”
