Redesign Gives Restaurateur Plenty of Reason to Feel Chipper

HANCOCK — Charles “Chip” Butterwick had been redesigning his restaurant in his head for a few years.

This month, the new Chipper’s Restaurant progressed from a picture in his mind to a top-to-bottom remodel.

Along with more space, a fresh and warmer décor, and a renovated pub and entertainment area, Chip has expanded his wine offerings to more than 100 different bottles of wine — more than any other dining establishment in the area — and now offers wine tastings.

Each week the 56-seat restaurant will feature three white and three red wines. Customers can try one, or sample a “wine flight,” or 2 ounces of each of the three whites or reds. There also will be monthly wine tastings.

The week of Dec. 30 through Jan. 5 the three white wines for tasting will be Pichot Vouvray, Martin Codax Albarino and D’Arenberg Stump Jump Chardonnay. The red wines that week are Shoofly Shiraz, Las Rocas Garnacha and Smith & Hook Cabernet Sauvignon.
