HANCOCK — The final program of the 2019 season for the Historical Society of Hancock will be a panel discussion titled “The Garages of Hancock.”
The program is scheduled for Friday, Oct. 11, at 7 p.m. at the Hancock Community Center on Route 1. All are invited.
Participants include Rick Merchant of Merchant’s Garage on Route 1, who started his business with his father in 1965-66 fixing lawnmowers.
Another lifetime Hancock resident who runs garages is Allen Stevens of North Hancock, whose first garage was situated on the Old Route 1 road to Ellsworth, where he began to build up his body of loyal customers.
Jasie Piper is the father of Mark Piper, who runs Piper’s Body Shop also on Route 1 in Hancock. Jasie says he fixed his first car motor when he was just 13.
