Portland Diocese hosting event in Augusta Oct. 5

PORTLAND — Pope Francis has bestowed a Papal Blessing upon “The Great Commission: One Family in Mission,” a daylong event set for Saturday, Oct. 5, at the Augusta Civic Center.

“The Great Commission” aims to inspire people from Maine to become ‘mission ambassadors’ for the Roman Catholic Diocese of Portland and will feature missionaries, national and local speakers and a concert by a Grammy-nominated band.

Registration opens at 8 a.m., followed by an opening liturgy at 9:45. Workshops and exhibitions will be held throughout the day. At 4 p.m., a celebratory praying of the mission rosary will be held. The event will conclude with an evening concert by the Christian rock group Sanctus Real at 6:30 p.m.
