Poetry Reading Set in Deer Isle

DEER ISLE — Jacqueline Michaud and Stephen Cushman, two poets with strong ties to Deer Isle, will read from their recently published collections on Tuesday, Aug. 9, at noon in the barn at the Island Historical Society, 416 Sunset Road in Sunset.

Michaud’s work has appeared widely in print and online journals, among them New England Review & Breadloaf Quarterly, The Florida Review, American Letters & Commentary, Voices from the Robert Frost Place and forthcoming in The Monarch Review.

Cushman has spent summers in Deer Isle since 1969. He is Robert C. Taylor Professor of English at the University of Virginia, where he has won university-wide teaching awards and served as director of the American Studies Program. He has published four collections of poetry: “Riffraff (2011), “Heart Island” (2006), “Cussing Lesson” (2002) and “Blue Pajamas” (1998).

The public is invited to bring brown bag lunches to the reading. The Historical Society hosts will provide iced tea and lemonade. There is no admission charge, but donations at the door will benefit the Historical Society’s building fund.

Books by both poets will be available for purchase.
