ELLSWORTH — Woodlawn will host a workshop titled “Sponge Painting with Acrylics” on Saturday, July 14, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Sponge painting with acrylics is an easy-to-learn technique, even for a novice painter. Students will learn how to dab, streak and smear to create clouds, mountains, water, bushes, trees and flowers in the grass.
By the end of the session, students will create one 16-by-20 painting. Subject matter and sponges will be provided by the instructor, artist Gay Paratore.
Students will also learn how to make a variety of painting sponges, each with a different texture that makes painting with them fast and fun.
The cost is $80 for Woodlawn members and $90 for nonmembers. A list of supplies will be emailed to registered participants. As space is limited, pre-registration is required through the calendar at www.woodlawnmuseum.org.
