Opera, Knitting at Blue Hill Library

BLUE HILL — Giacomo Puccini’s opera “La Fanciulla del West” comes to The Grand in Ellsworth on Saturday, Jan. 8, by live simulcast from the Metropolitan Opera in New York.

To help music lovers prepare for this event, the Bagaduce Music Lending Library and Friends of the Blue Hill Public Library will join together to introduce and study this “wild west” opera at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 6, in the Howard Room of the Blue Hill Public Library.

At the preview event, local opera expert Tony Downer will summarize the plot, introduce the music and highlight some things to look for at the Jan. 8 simulcast.

All are welcome and admission is free.

The library’s popular Thursday night knitting group will start up again on Jan. 6. The group meets from 6:30 to 8 p.m. in the main reading room near the fireplace.

For more information on either event, call the library at 374-5515.

The library has also announced that “eBooks” are now available for download to patrons of the Blue Hill Public Library and other participating libraries around Maine.

The eBook collection is located at the Maine InfoNet Download Library website at http://download.maineinfonet.org, where library patrons can also find downloadable audiobooks.
