Online book discussion scheduled Oct. 22

ELLSWORTH — All are welcome to join Bob Dodge from the Union of Concerned Scientists for an online discussion of Hope Jahren’s latest book, “The Story of More,” on Thursday, Oct. 22, at 2 p.m. This program is part of the Ellsworth Public Library’s series of National Endowment for the Arts Big Read events.

In “The Story of More,” Jahren illuminates the link between human habits and our imperiled planet. In concise, highly readable chapters, she takes readers through the science behind the key inventions — from electric power to large-scale farming to automobiles — that, even as they help us, release greenhouse gases into the atmosphere like never before. She explains the current and projected consequences of global warming — from superstorms to rising sea levels — and the actions that we all can take to fight back.

This event is open to the public, but space is limited, so pre-registration is required. Contact Abby at [email protected] to register and reserve a copy of the book.
