GOULDSBORO — As of July 1, the town will no longer pay “tipping fees” for refuse collected in Dumpsters leased by businesses and individuals.
The Board of Selectmen voted unanimously Feb. 4 to discontinue paying the fees, which totaled $18,817.13 in 2009.
Selectman Susan Bagley was absent.
Tipping fees are what the Penobscot Energy Recovery Co. (PERC) charges for solid waste. The fee is based on volume.
“The selectmen made a fine decision based on information provided to them by the Solid Waste Committee,” said Ray Jones, chairman of the committee.
