New Marden’s May Open by End of March

ELLSWORTH — The Ellsworth Marden’s is nearly finished supersizing itself.

The new location on Route 3, the former home of the Ellsworth Walmart, may be open by the end of March, said Paul LePage, who is general manager for the Maine-based chain.

LePage said the store still had quite a bit of work to do to get ready, so the opening date is “a moving target.”

The new location will offer shoppers a third more space.

Marden’s current site at the Maine Coast Mall is 65,000 square feet. The former Walmart building is 94,000 square feet.

The surplus and salvage store carries merchandise other stores have overstocked and buys items from stores that have closed or have had natural disasters.

Hours at the new store will be the same as the old location, Monday through Friday 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., Saturday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Sunday 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
