New Manager Takes the Helm at NEH Fleet

MOUNT DESERT — Fran Charles has been tapped to skipper the Northeast Harbor Fleet (NEHF). He recently assumed the reins from general manager Greg Wilkinson. Mr. Charles’ experience has made him a valuable asset to the sailing program at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and he will bring those qualities here to guide the NEHF.

“He is very familiar with hiring, teaching kids, budgets, running large events, he is a very accomplished sailor in his own right,” said Malinda Crain, president of the Northeast Harbor Sailing School (NEHSS).

This summer will be a busy one with the International One Design North American Championships and the U.S. Sailing Northeast Region Junior Olympics being hosted by the NEHF.

Mr. Charles retains his job at MIT but has a crew he trusts to run the summer program while he is here on Mount Desert Island.

Mr. Charles is appreciative of the staff he has surrounding him at the NEHF which includes new operations manager, Lauren Simmons.
