Mushroom Workshop, Walk at Woodlawn

Ellsworth — Woodlawn will be offering an evening illustrated lecture on wild mushrooms of summer with amateur mycologist Greg Marley on Friday, July 22, from 6:30 to 8:30 pm.

Then on Saturday, July 23, Marley will lead a daylong identification workshop from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Participants will learn to identify common Maine mushrooms, where to find them and how to use wild mushrooms.

Participants are invited to bring mushrooms collected on their property for identification and to add to the day’s diversity of species.

The workshop will include a walk in the woods, so participants are urged to dress appropriately. Baskets, curiosity, and mushroom field guides are also recommended as equipment for the day.

The cost for the evening lecture is $15 for Woodlawn members and $20 for nonmembers. The cost for the workshop on Saturday is $60 for Woodlawn members and $70 for nonmembers and includes admission to the evening lecture.

As space is limited, pre-registration is required by calling Woodlawn at 667-8671. Participants should bring a bag lunch for Saturday’s program.
