WINTER HARBOR — On Friday, Aug. 10, the Perseid Meteor Shower will be approaching its peak activity. This meteor shower is the most famous of all due to its remarkable summer displays of up to 100 meteors per hour.
The public is invited to come to the Moore Auditorium at the Schoodic Education and Research Center (SERC) on Aug. 10 at 9 p.m. to view the meteor shower and look at celestial objects through the telescope.
Visitors should be sure to dress warmly, bring a lawn chair and a snack. The meteor shower lasts for hours, so visitors should plan to stay late.
Viewing follows the last session of SERC Institute’s astronomy class lecture, which begins at 7.
The event is open to the public and is free of charge. No reservations are necessary.
