MERI Seeks Lecture Sponsors

BLUE HILL — The Marine Environmental Research Institute (MERI) has announced its Community Sponsor Program in which area businesses or individuals can participate and show their support for MERI’s monthly Ocean Environment Lecture Series.

The series is designed to increase the community’s understanding of critical marine-related issues in Maine and around the globe.

Lectures are held monthly from January through November at the MERI Center for Marine Studies at 55 Main St. in Blue Hill on the third Thursday of each month at 7 p.m., unless otherwise arranged. A reception honoring the guest speaker begins at 6. All receptions and lectures are free and open to the public.

Community sponsors can choose to participate as the sole sponsor or as a co-sponsor of a particular lecture. Sponsorship of a lecture helps MERI defray costs associated with hosting the lecturer and providing the reception refreshments and hors d’oeuvres. Sole sponsorship of a lecture is $500 and co-sponsoring a lecture with another business or individual is $250. Sponsors will receive publicity in the press release and posters distributed throughout the region prior to the lecture. Additionally, sponsors will receive acknowledgment in signage during the reception and lecture, as well as verbal and visual recognition during the program’s opening remarks by MERI Founder/Director Susan Shaw.

MERI’s next lecture on Thursday, June 25, will feature diver, explorer and photographer Anne Doubilet. The lecture topic is “Ends of the Earth: From Papua New Guinea to the Arctic.”

The lecture is being sponsored by Maine Vacation Rentals Inc. (www.mainevacationrentalsonline.com) of Blue Hill.

For more information about sponsoring a lecture, contact Marty Dischinger of the volunteer-based Friends of MERI Committee at 266-5058 or Amy Gutow, MERI development coordinator, at 374-2135.
