BLUE HILL — The Marine Environmental Research Institute (MERI) has announced two programs that will take place during the upcoming April school vacation, including a special celebration of Earth Day.
Both programs will begin at 10 a.m. at the MERI Center for Marine Studies on Main Street in Blue Hill.
“Sharks Up Close!” is a program presented by Tony Sohns, a natural history educator and owner of the Rock and Art Shop in Ellsworth. The program is scheduled for Tuesday, April 21, from 10 to 11:30 a.m.
The program is most suitable for children ages 6-12.
This year, on Thursday, April 23, is the day that MERI will celebrate Earth Day with a scavenger hunt from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Participants can spend the morning in the field finding signs of spring. Equipped with maps, buckets, nets, magnifiers and binoculars, participants will search streams, beaches, marshes and fields for Earth Day “treasures.”
This program is also best for 6-12-year-olds.
Both programs are offered at a cost of $15 per child for each class. Class size is limited and reservations are required. To register, call MERI at 374-2135 or send an e-mail to [email protected] no later than Friday, April 17.
