MDI Y Adult Running Class

BAR HARBOR — Becky Carroll is teaching a beginning adult running program at the MDI YMCA for people 15 years old and older. This is a 12-week program that meets twice a week, on Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.

Learn the basics of beginning running. The course includes sessions on which clothes and shoes to wear, injury prevention, stretching basics, biomechanics of the running form, instruction on how often to run, and basic strength building for runners.

An individual daily training program for each person will be developed during the session. The course also includes speed workouts, distance training and cross training.

“This is a great program for the person who has never run a race or for the person who needs support and guidance on how to train,” said Ms. Carroll. The group goal is to run the 5K hosted by the Y on Sept. 18.

Ms. Carroll said she plans to emphasize a fun, group environment. “This is a great place to ask those questions that you have when you are a beginning runner.
