BAR HARBOR — Hollywood stars Susan Sarandon and Tim Robbins thrilled a crowd of nearly 500 people as part of a fund-raising event at the Criterion Theatre on Wednesday evening.
The pair took to the stage after a special showing of their hit film “Bull Durham.” Sitting in a pair of wing chairs, the actors and activists talked for nearly half an hour about their careers, changes in the film industry and tips for aspiring actors.
Ms. Sarandon, an Oscar winner who never took formal acting lessons, told one young actor that she just tried to “follow your intuition and try to be brave.”
Prior to the screening the couple made an appearance at a fund-raising cocktail party. Board members for the nonprofit theater and performing acts center, which is located in a vintage Art Deco building on Cottage Street, are hoping to raise money to retire the center’s mortgage and make improvements to the structure. Ms. Sarandon and Mr. Robbins have a summer home on Mount Desert Island.
