Marquee Violation Issued

BAR HARBOR — The owners of the Criterion Theatre have been given until Monday, Aug.10, to make town-ordered changes to their marquee or face possible legal action.

However, the board of directors of the non-profit theater will disobey the wishes of the town and leave the sign as it now stands, board president Rob Jordan said Aug. 3.

The $150,000 marquee was unveiled in April of this year, after being under construction for more than a year. Within weeks, however, Chris Vincenty, the owner of the Reel Pizza Cinerama movie theater, raised a complaint that the sign was not designed to the specifications approved by the design review board.
