MOUNT DESERT — The town’s large-scale marina renovation project has been at the top of many residents’ minds as it begins to move from its conceptual stage to its design stage. For some, however, the project has flown under the radar, said selectwoman Marilyn Damon.
“There are people in this town that don’t even know about this project,” she said at a recent meeting of the board of selectmen.
The marina project, developed by the marine management committee, features revamped parking areas, new facilities for the harbormaster, chamber of commerce and visiting yachtsmen, plus public restrooms and an Island Explorer bus stop.
To date, selectmen have authorized about $38,000 to develop the preliminary designs for the project, said selectman Jean Bonville.
Copies of the latest marina design plans are available at the Northeast Harbor Library and online at the town’s website.
