Marina Plan Inches Ahead

MOUNT DESERT — The Marine Management Committee firmed up design concepts for the proposed Northeast Harbor yachtsman’s facility and chamber of commerce building at a public meeting last Thursday. The proposed updates are part of the large-scale marina renovation project that the committee has been working to develop since last year.

The marina plan features a revamped parking area, new facilities for the harbormaster, chamber of commerce and visiting yachtsmen, as well as public restrooms and an Island Explorer bus stop.

During the meeting, it was decided that the new yachtsman’s facility will be sited where the chamber of commerce building now sits, and a new visitor’s center, that would house the chamber of commerce and area information, would be located next to the tennis courts. The new public restrooms and the new Island Explorer bus stop are set to be located in that area as well, so the site made the most sense, said harbormaster Shawn Murphy.
