ELLSWORTH — Maine Coast Pediatrics is looking for young people between 8 and 18 to participate in its semi-annual intensive weight loss program.
Nurse Tammy Tyler said the children learn about exercise and nutrition. They also speak with a therapist who talks about some of the psychological issues associated with being overweight.
The focus is on maintaining weight instead of weight loss because the children are still growing, Tyler said.
The group meets every Thursday from 3 to 5 p.m. for eight weeks.
The fee is $100, which is returned if the participants complete the program. The fee is covered by some health insurance programs, Tyler said.
