ELLSWORTH — Northern Light Maine Coast Hospital continues to be recognized for excellent safety and quality. Last month, Maine Coast Hospital received a five-star rating from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS) along with only three other hospitals statewide.
“We are quite proud of this five-star designation,” said hospital President John Ronan. “Providers, nurses, and staff have diligently focused on setting extremely high standards for quality and safety and I am grateful that our highly deserving employees at Maine Coast were recognized for their passionate work.”
This CMS acknowledgment follows the recent news that Maine Coast achieved an “A” safety grade from the Leapfrog Group, additional confirmation of the excellent patient care delivered at the Ellsworth hospital.
“The CMS five-stars and Leapfrog “A” safety grade are the highest possible ratings a hospital can receive,” explains Vice President of Nursing and Patient Care Kristin Cyr. “I hope that the community recognizes the incredible work that our hospital has accomplished to earn both of these exemplary achievements.”
The star rating is based on quality measures including safety of care, readmissions and effectiveness of care. Because of the complexity involved in measuring quality for healthcare, the five-star rating system summarizes the complex information.
