Log sawing contest set in Sedgwick

SEDGWICK — The Sedgwick Brooklin Historical Society will be holding its 27th Annual Log Sawing and Ax Throwing contest on Saturday, Oct. 12, from 10 a.m. until noon at the historic Merrill House grounds in Sedgwick.

The historic district is on Route 172, 7.5 miles from Tradewinds Marketplace in Blue Hill.

The Brooklin Town Band will kick the festivities off by performing fall favorites from 10 to 10:30. Sawing contests will start at 10:15 with the individual bucksaw, followed by the ax throw and finishing up the day with the two-person cross saw. There also will be an old-fashioned cider press on hand.

All of the historic buildings will be open for viewing. The event will happen rain or shine.
