Lighthouses open for tours



SOUTH PORTLAND — The public is invited to visit and tour the towers and keeper’s quarters of lighthouses throughout the state on Saturday, Sept.14, as part of the annual Maine Open Lighthouse Day.

This event is the largest of its kind in the country and is coordinated by the U.S. Coast Guard, the American Lighthouse Foundation and the Maine Office of Tourism.

This year at least 24 lighthouses will be open to visitors from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. for free tours. The list of participating lights and their specific accessibility times and details can be seen at lighthousefoundation.org/maine-open-lighthouse-day.
