Library hosting preview events



BLUE HILL — On Wednesday, Jan. 30, at 7 p.m., the Gilbert & Sullivan Society of Maine will hold a preview at the Blue Hill Public Library of its upcoming production, “Iolanthe.”

The preview will feature live performances of some of the music in the show and a discussion of the story by opera expert David Porter. The show will be performed at The Grand in Ellsworth Feb. 8-10 and 15-17.

On Friday, Feb. 1, at 1 p.m., the Bagaduce Music Lending Library and Friends of the Blue Hill Public Library will present a preview of Georges Bizet’s opera “Carmen” at the Blue Hill Public Library.

A live performance of the opera will be simulcast at The Grand in Ellsworth the following day, Saturday, Feb. 2, from the Metropolitan Opera in New York.

All are welcome, no previous opera knowledge is needed, and admission is free.
