League Scores Corporate Aid

BAR HARBOR — A sponsorship from the Pepsi beverage corporation will allow the placement of two electronic scoreboards at the town athletic fields this summer.

Pepsi officials have agreed to contribute $6,000 toward the scoreboards, along with $500 annually for the next five years for maintenance, Acadian Little League representative Andrew Shea told the town council May 3. In return, the league must carry only Pepsi brand products in its snack shack for five years and must keep a stocked vending machine of Pepsi products outside of the shack.

The league will maintain control of which Pepsi products it carries, both in the shack and in the vending machine. To that end, they discussed the project with the parks and recreation committee and Doug Michael of Healthy Acadia and decided to opt for an Aquafina vending machine stocked with 100-percent juices and water, Mr. Shea said.

Town councilors voted 7-0 to authorize the placement of the vending machine on town property.
