Laptops a Hit at Bucksport High School

BUCKSPORT — There have been some growing pains, but overall the addition of new laptops at Bucksport High School this year has been a success, according to officials.

“It’s a learning curve for both teachers and students,” Principal Bob Doar told the Regional School Unit 25 Board at its meeting Tuesday.

He said students and staff were excited to receive the computers. Teachers are exploring ways to incorporate the technology into classes, including using them for note taking and research.

While the computers are intended for educational purposes, students sometimes have their own ideas. Officials had to install a filter blocking the online networking site Facebook, after too many students accessed it.

Doar said it took students about 45 minutes to find a way around the filter.

“That’s about 40 minutes longer than I’d thought it’d take,” Superintendent Jim Boothby joked.
