Lamoine Voters Approve Municipal Budget

LAMOINE — Voters approved a $701,828.80 municipal budget at Town Meeting March 16.

Some 81 residents attended the meeting, which concluded in less than two hours.

Included on the 31-article warrant was $25,000 to Mount Desert Island High School for Lamoine students who attend the school.

The funding in excess of tuition was requested by the high school to cover debt service for new construction.

The payment passed with little discussion.

In addition to the budget, voters approved a series of amendments to the Building and Lane Use Ordinance.

Residents also narrowly approved a change authorizing selectmen, not voters at Town Meeting, to set fees for permits such as building permits.

The town approved funding requests from several social service agencies and voted to fund the full $7,990 requested by the Ellsworth Public Library.

The selectmen and Budget Committee had recommended $7,735, which was what the library received last year.
