Judson Cake Bests Field of 159 In Schaefer Memorial Race

GOULDSBORO — It wasn’t a course record, but Judson Cake of Bar Harbor ran plenty fast enough to win Saturday’s eighth annual George Schaefer Memorial Road Race at Birch Harbor.

The 31-year-old Cake toured the five-kilometer course, which takes runners from Wonsqueak Harbor into Acadia National Park and back, in 15 minutes and 25 seconds, besting runner-up Eric Rudolph, 25, of Sullivan by almost a minute.

Rudolph finished with a time of 16:16.

A field 159 walkers and runners participated in the main event, with 18 youngsters ages 4 to 11 competing in the one-mile fun run that got things started.

Anne Favolise-Stanton, 26, of Columbia was the women’s winner in the five-kilometer race, finishing 11th overall in 18:59, with Marissa Hatcher, 20, of Winter Park, Fla., right behind her in 12th place with a time of 19:46.

Among the large crowd of runners honoring his dad was Georgie Schaefer, 23, of Winter Harbor, who placed 52nd in 24:53.

In the fun run, 11-year-old Aidan Bergan of West Chester, Pa., won for the second consecutive year with a time of 7:40, with Nathaniel DeSisto, 10, of Orono second in 7:47.

The girls’ winner was nine-year-old Sophia Millay of Needham, Mass., who was third overall in 8:04.

Ages 1-19 – Lucy Skinner, 15, Hanover, N.H., 21:13; Henry Bauer, 19, Steuben, 17:52.

Ages 20-29 – Marissa Hatcher, 20, Winter Park, Fla., 19:46; Eric Rudolph, 25, Sullivan, 16:16.

Ages 30-39 – Suzanne Bracy, 39, Southwest Harbor, 23:12; Pete Mandy, 38, Bethesda, Md., 18:32.

Ages 40-49 – Mary Ruoff, 45, Belfast, 22:55; David Painter, 47, Bar Harbor, 17:56.

Ages 50-59 – Emily Stuart, 50, Cumberland, 27:04; Bruce Wirey, 55, Ellsworth, 21:02.

Ages 60-69 – Robin Emery, 62, Lamoine, 26:52; Peter Davis, 62, Underhill, Vt., 20:45.

Ages 70-99 – Mary Alice Bruce, 70, Corea, 31:56; Caesar Favaloro, 74, Prospect Harbor, 32:33.
