Historical society talk in Hancock

HANCOCK — On Friday, Sept. 7, the Historical Society of the Town of Hancock will meet at 7 p.m. at the Hancock Community Center on Route 1.

The program is free and open to the public.

The title of the program is “Letters from the Old Brass Bed.” Bob Foss, a fourth-generation occupant of the Captain Orlando Foss house in Hancock, discovered a stash of letters from the late 1800s and early 1900s.

Orlando Foss was Bob’s great-grandfather. Bob, along with Alan Gray, a Crabtree descendent of another prominent Hancock family of sea captains, will read and discuss some of these fascinating letters written to folks at home while the men were at sea.
