Heritage Project

MOUNT DESERT — The Northeast Harbor Library, the Mount Desert Historical Society and the Mount Desert Island Regional School System have been awarded a Maine Community Heritage Grant from the Maine Historical Society. A planning meeting on how to implement the project is set for Monday, Aug. 20, at 2 p.m. at the Northeast Harbor Library.

This is a year-long school project that allows students and adults in our community to identify primary source items that are relevant to our community’s history and then digitize and catalog these items. The final product is a high-quality community history website linked through the Maine Historical Society that celebrates the history of our community.
