Guns for sale

TREMONT — Selectmen here Monday authorized town manager Carl Young to dispose of two town-owned firearms, a revolver once used by the town constable and a shotgun for use by the animal control officer.

The action provoked chairman Chris Eaton to joke about disposing of the “town bullet” as well.

The firearms will be given to the Hancock County Sheriff’s Department, which has a program where all surrendered weapons are checked to be sure they are legal before they are put up for sale.

Resident Frank Gray, who once was a town constable, said at one time there had been two revolvers, one for each constable. The whereabouts of the other weapon is not known. Tremont no longer has constables.
