Greene heads YMCA drive

BAR HARBOR — Will Greene of Bar Harbor will serve as the chair of the Mount Desert Island YMCA’s Annual Campaign.

As the youth representative on the MDI Y board of directors since the spring of 2013, Greene stands up for the needs of the youth in the community and ensures that the Y is addressing those needs.

“Will is such an asset to our community,” said Alan Mogridge, CEO of the YMCA. “He is a shining example of a youth who grew up in the YMCA surrounded by a culture of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.”

Greene remembers going to the YMCA every day after school. “Every day, there was basketball in the gym and pickup kickball games in the field across from the Y,” Greene said. “It was and still is a safe haven for kids on the island.”

As chair of the annual campaign, Greene will lead the YMCA’s biggest fundraising effort of the year. He truly believes that the Y is a worthy cause. “The Y is a cornerstone for our community throughout the year,” he said. “When there is nothing else to do in the winter, you can go to the Y and do anything.”
