Grant to help fund “Museum in the Streets” in Bucksport

BUCKSPORT — Main Street Bucksport and the Bucksport Historical Society were awarded an $8,000 grant from the Hancock County Fund of the Maine Community Foundation to create a “Museum in the Streets.”

Museum in the Streets is a self-guided walking tour of historically significant places and buildings throughout the downtown district marked by signs that tell the stories of those places and highlight relevant items from the Historical Society’s collection.

The two groups will work with Orland-based Riverside Museum Solutions, the town of Bucksport, and private property owners to create the project. Work will begin this summer with a community celebration planned for summer 2020.

The public is invited to the next meeting of the Bucksport Historical Society on Monday, June 17, at 1 p.m. to vote on the places that will be featured in the Museum in the Streets.

The meeting will be held at the Bucksport Bay Area Chamber of Commerce.
