TRENTON — The Maine Department of Transportation (MDOT) put Phase I of the Acadia Gateway Center project out to bid Sept. 23. Bids will be accepted through Oct. 28.
“We anticipate awarding the contract in mid to late November, and site work probably will start in December,” said DOT project manager Joel Kittredge.
The $20 million Acadia Gateway Center will be a regional transportation hub and visitor welcome center.
Phase I of the project, estimated to cost $8.7 million, will include construction of the access road and a maintenance facility for the Island Explorer bus system.
The MDOT recently received a site location permit for the project from the Maine Department of Environmental Projection.
