BERNARD — “History of Gardening in America” will be the topic at the Tremont Historical Society’s May meeting, which is scheduled for Monday, May 24, at 7 p.m. at the library in Bernard.
Mary Jones will describe different types and purposes of gardening with an emphasis on women’s roles from the 1600s to the organic gardens of today.
The talk will cover the varying role of gardens and the changing emphasis on vegetable vs. flower gardens over the years.
At this meeting, the board will also will describe a filming project about wooden boat building and the three-generation Rich family of boat builders in Bernard.
