Garden Club Hosting Programs



ELLSWORTH — Throughout the months of May and June, the Ellsworth Garden Club will be hosting several public programs and activities.

On May 18, the club will host an illustrated talk by Steve Elliott, owner of NewLand Nursery and Florist of Ellsworth. He will be speaking on “Bulbs, Roots, and Rhizomes for Summer and Fall Gardens.”

The program begins at 7 p.m. at the University of Maine Cooperative Extension, Hancock County Office on the Boggy Brook Road in Ellsworth.

Refreshments will be served.

On May 30, the club will host its annual plant sale.

The sale begins at 10 a.m. at the Donald Little Park (the State Street, School Street and Birch Avenue triangle in Ellsworth), and proceeds will benefit the endowment fund for the park.

On June 6, at 2 p.m., the club will partner with NewLand Nursery and Florist to offer a public demonstration by Sonia Cianchette on designing container plantings.

Cianchette is past director of the New England Region of the National Garden Clubs Inc. and past president of the Garden Club Federation of Maine.

On June 14, from 2 to 4 p.m., the club will host a wildflower identification workshop to be led by botanical and ecological consultant Sally Rooney. The workshop will take place on the walking tails at Birdsacre on Route 3 in Ellsworth.

The workshop is open to the public free of charge.

Rain date for the workshop will be June 21.
