Fernald Returning to Town Clerk’s Position in Franklin

FRANKLIN — Voters approved a $591,837.41 budget at the annual Town Meeting Saturday, of which $319,032.41 is to be raised from property taxes.

The prior two budgets were larger because they included construction of a salt/sand shed and a new vault in Town Hall.

In other action, Robert Fernald, who had decided not to seek re-election as town clerk, changed his mind about serving after receiving 52 write in votes.

Fernald said he would work both at home and at Town Hall.

During the four-and-a-half-hour meeting, Franklin also became the first of seven towns to approve the Frenchman Bay Regional Shellfish Conservation Ordinance
