Fashion Photographers Discover Downeast Maine Is Model Setting

ELLSWORTH — It may be hard to mistake a Maine winter, but it’s easy to fake a Maine fall.

Even in June, the state’s evergreen trees and granite coastline make an ideal backdrop for cozily clad models posing for autumn catalogs and magazines.

“Catalogs are shot two or at least one season in advance,” Ellsworth photographer William Brehm explained.

He and his wife, Honora, have made a business of scouting locations and organizing the details of fashion shoots. Their company, The Maine Location, wrapped up a project with a major women’s catalog last month.

A pair of models posed for noted photographer Dewey Nicks at a private Bar Harbor mansion, a Winter Harbor bed and breakfast and in the Schoodic section of Acadia National Park.
