Famed Whitewater Kayaker Gives Presentation

MOUNT DESERT — On Thursday, Aug. 27, legendary whitewater kayaker Willie Kern will speak at the Neighborhood House in Northeast Harbor along accompanied by a photography exhibit by his brother Johnny Kern.


The evening is a fund-raiser for M.D.I. Alcohol & Drug Abuse Group, Inc.

Kern is one of the most accomplished and respected ambassadors to the whitewater paddling community, and has dedicated his life to exploring the natural world from the seat of his kayak.

Local aquanut and Penobscot Paddle and Chowder Society member and MDI resident Kyle Duckworth will do the introduction.

The event is sponsored by Cadillac Mountain Sports, L.L. Bean, Coastal Kayaking Tours, Old Red Store Antiques, National Park Sea Kayak Tours, Bar Harbor Bicycle Shop, Carroll Drug Store, Moody Mermaid, National Park Canoe Rental, Ski Rack Sports, Maine Point, Cranberry Island Kitchen, Brown’s Hardware, and McEachern & Hutchins, Inc.

A benefit raffle will also be held with a grand prize of a Liquidlogic Remix XP Kayak. Tickets are $5 each or five for $20.
