Events scheduled at Blue Hill Library

BLUE HILL — The public is invited to participate in the Blue Hill Public Library’s monthly play reading group on Wednesday, Oct. 17, from 6:30 to 9 p.m. at the library.

This month the group will read “The Lady in the Van” by Alan Bennett, written in 1999.

The play is based on the playwright’s earlier memoir, and precedes the 2015 film of the same name. It is a dramatized account of a genteel vagrant Miss Shepard, who parked her van in Alan Bennett’s driveway for 15 years.

The group welcomes inexperienced and experienced readers alike.

On Thursday, Oct. 18, at 6:30 p.m., the library will host a screening of the new feature-length documentary film “Dawnland.”

The film will be followed by a discussion led by Barbara Kates of Maine-Wabanaki REACH (Reconciliation Engagement Advocacy Change Healing).

The film is about the Wabanaki Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC), the first government-sanctioned TRC in the United States.

For more information on either of these events, call the library at 374-5515.
