ELLSWORTH — A local woman’s Facebook account was hacked and the hacker, who is thought to live in England, had been trying to get the woman’s friends to send money.
Facebook is a social networking Web site.
Detective Dotty Small advised the woman to delete the account and create a new identity.
Theft
Five special coins were stolen from a residence last week.
Two snow shovels were stolen from a Christian Ridge Road residence.
Fraud
A local business reported that a man had passed over $1,000 worth of counterfeit traveler’s checks. Police are investigating.
Accidents
A pickup truck slid across Water Street and hit a guardrail after a motorist lost control while traveling west on a snow-covered Foster Street Monday, police reported.
Gary Gardner, 42, of Ellsworth was driving west in a 1997 GMC, which sustained an estimated $5,000 in damage, police said.
