Eastbrook Considers Big Wind

EASTBROOK — Details remain murky about possible development of an industrial wind farm in town, but officials have begun the process of changing town regulations to allow such development.

“We’re just getting into it,” said First Selectman Charles Yeo. “It’s very early on.”

Yeo said Boston-based wind energy firm First Wind approached the town with an informal proposal for a wind farm in January. He said that, at the time, the company suggested installing 17 1.5-megawatt wind turbines in Eastbrook and more in neighboring Township 16.

First Wind spokesman John Lamontagne confirmed in February that the company was collecting and reviewing readings from three meteorological towers it had installed in the area, one on Little Bull Hill in Eastbrook and the others on Bull Hill and Heifer Hill in Township 16.

This week, he said it was early in the process to be giving specifics about a possible project.

“We don’t want to tell people it’s going to be x, y, z size when it might not be,” he said.
