Down East AIDS events scheduled

ELLSWORTH — In honor of World AIDS Day on Dec. 1 and AIDS Awareness Month, the Down East AIDS Network will be hosting “Light the Night: A Celebration of AIDS Awareness” on Friday, Dec. 6.

This year, the event will be held in both Ellsworth and Machias.

Light the Night will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Ellsworth Public Library and from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Centre Street Congregational Church in Machias.

Participants will have an opportunity to publicly remember those affected by HIV/AIDS and light a candle in their honor. The theme of this year’s World AIDS Day is “shared responsibility.” Both events will feature free coffee and dessert.

The event also will mark the kick-off of Down East AIDS Network’s silent auction. The auction, featuring arts and crafts from over a dozen local artists and merchants, will run from the beginning of December through Saturday, Dec. 14.

Participants can bid online at www.downeastaidsnetwork.org or in person at the Camden National Bank on Main Street in Ellsworth.
