Dorcas Library Receives $1,000 Grant

GOULDSBORO — Dorcas Library has received a $1,000 grant from the Rose and Samuel Rudman Library Trust to fund children’s programs, among them a regular story hour and visits by authors and performers.

The story hour is usually built around a theme and is held twice a month during the school year and weekly during the busier summer months.

The remainder of last year’s grant was used to bring a professional balloon artist to Hammond Hall in Winter Harbor for children at the Peninsula School.

Events last summer included a visit by a certified pet therapy Yorkie, “Trinket;” a reading of Tasha Tudor’s “A is for Annabelle” with a special doll; a visit by picture book author Lynn Plourde; a live reptile presentation; an ice cream party with homemade ice cream, and a visit by Farmer Minor and his pot belly pig, “Daisy.”

The grant is administered through the Maine Community Foundation.
