Dock Project Delayed Again

SOUTHWEST HARBOR — A construction project at the Lower Town Dock has been delayed yet again, selectmen learned Tuesday.

Harbormaster Dennis Dever reported that a new target date of June 14 has been set for “substantial completion” of the project. The extension of the dock to allow boat access during severe weather and tidal conditions has had several setbacks, mostly due to changes to the original plans for the project.

According to Mr. Dever, the latest delay came as a result of the contractor for the project not keeping the subcontractor supplied with the necessary materials.

Town manager Robin Bennett said she had spoken to the engineer for the project, who told her some of the delay came from a last-minute change in the configuration of the extension. Some work was stalled while the project was being reengineered.
