Development Moratorium Proposed

SOUTHWEST HARBOR — The town’s attorney has completed a proposed moratorium on multi-unit development for consideration by selectmen.

Selectmen earlier this month decided to send a moratorium question to voters. The action was in response to a citizens’ petition for the moratorium provoked by a building permit application for Jeff Crafts’ 40-home subdivision, The Village at Ocean’s End. The petitioners claim the definition of multi-unit housing in the land-use ordinance needs clarification to prevent developers from building more units on a given lot than intended by the ordinance.

Selectmen are scheduled to discuss the moratorium proposal at a meeting at the Southwest Harbor Fire Station beginning at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 10.
