Design Blitz Set At COA Jan. 15-17

BAR HARBOR — Designer John Bielenberg believes one can change the world or a small community in 48 hours.

He will be at College of the Atlantic from Friday, Jan. 15, through Sunday, Jan. 17, to begin doing so.

At 5 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 15, in the college’s Gates Community Center, he will offer a public talk related to his beliefs. He will also give a more informal classroom talk at 11:10 a.m. in the Straus Seminar Room on the second floor of Turrets. The public is invited to both.

Bielenberg, a highly noted designer who has won has won more than 250 design awards, will follow the 5 p.m. opening with a weekend design blitz, working with a group of students to create a project related to somehow making the world a better place.

The student-centered workshop will last approximately 48 hours, and it will likely involve the creation of something that brings awareness to a pressing social, cultural, economic or environmental issue on Mount Desert Island, and/or Earth.
