ELLSWORTH — In an interesting turn of events, David Crandall, principal of the Peninsula School in Gouldsboro, is leaving, and outgoing Sumner Memorial High School Principal Mike Eastman will be taking over at Peninsula.

“As difficult as the situation has been, I can’t think of a better resolution,” said Eastman, who was ousted at Sumner in order for the school to qualify for a share of $9 million in federal School Improvement Grant funds
Sumner became eligible for help due to the unfortunate distinction of being one of 10 persistently low-achieving schools in Maine.
In addition to approving Eastman’s appointment, the Regional School Unit 24 (RSU 24) Board Tuesday evening appointed outgoing curriculum coordinator Ann McCann as the new teaching principal at the Lamoine Consolidated School.
The board also defeated school choice within the RSU on a 10-4 vote.
