Deer Isle Man Injured in Crash

ELLSWORTH — A LifeFlight helicopter flew a Deer Isle man to Eastern Maine Medical Center Thursday after his car went off the road, struck a culvert wall and came to rest against some trees, Hancock County Deputy Sheriff Ben Astbury reported.

A witness whose vehicle was nearly struck head-on during the incident found the motorist unconscious and called for help.

Memorial Ambulance first treated the injured motorist, Raymond Garcia, 20, at the scene before he was flown to the Bangor hospital, police said.

Astbury said Garcia, 20, was driving west on Sunshine Road in a 1995 Mitsubishi, which sustained an estimated $4,000 in damage.

The deputy said that he intends to charge Garcia with operating after suspension and imprudent speed.
